Dear Baggy Shanker MP,
I hope this email finds you well.
I am writing to invite you to be a guest on my podcast, Inspiring Young Minds, where we explore the future of education and the role of creativity in shaping the next generation. Given your position as our local MP and your commitment to education, I believe you would be an invaluable voice in this conversation.
I have previously written to you twice regarding the Labour Government’s plans to address the growing gulf between the arts and other core subjects in primary education, but I have yet to receive a response. I completely understand how busy your schedule must be, which is why I’d love to offer this podcast as a positive and public platform for us to discuss this vital issue.
At Music Kids Academy, we are leading a movement to shift the focus from STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths) to STEAM (STEM + the Arts) in primary education. The arts are not a ‘nice to have’—they are a need to have, just as critical as literacy and numeracy in preparing children for a well-rounded future.
Why this matters:
Music and the arts develop essential skills such as creativity, critical thinking, and emotional intelligence.
Schools across the UK are losing funding for creative subjects, despite overwhelming evidence of their benefits.
We want to work with policymakers to find solutions that ensure the arts remain an integral part of our children’s education.
Our discussion will be recorded and published as part of our public campaign to advocate for this change, ensuring transparency and engagement from educators, parents, and policymakers alike.
I would love to hear your thoughts on the government’s stance on music and the arts in education, as well as your ideas on how we can work together to ensure that creativity is not lost in our schools.
Would you be available for a 30-minute recorded conversation at a time that suits you? We can arrange this either in person or via Zoom.
Looking forward to your response.
Best regards,
